The reaction of average programmers has been so predictable over the last four decades. Typically, the average programmer complains:
- Too Complex, the specs said nothing about queues or stacks or regular expressions
- Too Many Variables, why not just use literals
- Too Indirect, the specs did not mention table look-ups
- Too Different, only a very few programmers do it that way
- Too Egotistical, those interpretive guys are not team players
- Too Non-Intuitive, who would ever do programming that way
Good Programmers Like Semi-Interpretive Concepts
- I did the same thing in my own program
- This is fun
- To add another case, I only had to add a row to a data table
- The new program is tiny compared to the old program
- Good-bye annual maintenance
